CFP® | Certified Financial Planner®

The CFP® designation is for those who wish to offer fee-based financial planning, traditionally in the tax, legal or investment professions. Its curriculum contains five core courses that cover investment planning, insurance planning, estate planning, tax planning, retirement planning, education planning and ethics and the financial planning process. The mark is offered and governed  by the Certified Financial Planner® Board of Standards in Washington, D.C.

ChFC® | Chartered Financial Consultant®

The ChFC® credential designation has the same core curriculum as the CFP® designation, plus two or three additional elective courses that focus on various areas of personal financial planning. The biggest difference is that it does not require candidates to pass a comprehensive board exam, as with the CFP®.

AEP® | Accredited Estate Planner®

Awarded by the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils to estate planning professionals who meet special requirements of education, experience, knowledge, professional reputation and character, the AEP® designation helps clients understand the team concept of estate planning. The designation is available to credentialed professionals actively licensed or certified as accountants, attorneys, insurance and financial planners, philanthropic advisors or trust officers who hold one or more of the following credentials — CAP®, CFA, CFP®,ChFC®, CLU®, CPA, CPWA®, CSPG, CTFA, JD, MSFS, and MST – and are devoting at least a third of one’s professional time to estate planning.

CLU® | Chartered Life Underwriter®

The CLU® designation has traditionally been pursued by agents who wish to specialize in life insurance for business or estate-planning purposes. Its curriculum includes required courses in fundamentals of insurance planning, life insurance law, individual life insurance, fundamentals of estate planning and planning for business owners and professionals.

RICP® | Retirement Income Certified Professional®

The RICP® designation equips advisors with the knowledge to effectively manage the transition from asset accumulation during a client’s working years to asset decumulation in retirement. It enables the advisor to demonstrate tremendous value by delivering smart strategies for creating secure, sustainable income for a client’s retirement.

MSFS | Master of Science in Financial Services

Financial planning professionals who earn a MSFS know how to work effectively with high net worth clients and better integrate ethical considerations into the financial planning process. They are expert in the wealth accumulation process and understand how to work with business owners to develop compensation, succession planning and retirement strategies and how to guide individuals in tax minimization, retirement planning and estate planning.

CASL | Chartered Advisor for Senior Living

CASL is a professional designation for financial advisors who have demonstrated a commitment to helping middle-aged and older clients achieve and preserve financial security through wealth management, wealth preservation and wealth transfer planning.

CLTC® | Certification for Long-term Care

CLTC® educates professionals in insurance, financial services, law and accounting about the severe consequences a need for long-term care would place on the emotional, physical and financial well-being of those their client loves. The goal is to give these professionals the proper skill set to discuss those consequences, offer a plan to mitigate them and when appropriate, recommend long-term care insurance as that plan’s funding source.

NAEPC | The National Association of Estate Planners & Councils

NAEPC was formed in 1962 and incorporated in 1963 as a nonprofit business league by 13 estate planning leaders from nine councils. The association’s core belief is that the team concept of estate planning best serves the client. Each program, benefit and service is developed with this single value in mind.

The NAEPC boasts over 260-member estate planning councils and provides services to their estimated 29,0000 individual members. NAIFA | National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers
